We all keep getting a number of forwards and articles on social media addictions and the menace that follows with it in one’s lives. As responsible, matured and experienced adults – it becomes imperative for many of us to share our half-baked-knowledge as well wishers with everyone coz apparently “we have been there, done that”.
Well, life is all about perspectives and we decided to take the road of listening to learn and see things from different perspectives. And when we are speaking about social change, social media has been a constant space for crucial conversations and voices to be heard across the world.
So, as our first PERSpective – we spoke with the youth about

PERSpectives
Social media has given us another virtual world where distance doesn’t matter anymore to connect with anyone. It has provided us the rights to ask questions to our authorities freely as well as expose the wrong doers. The use of social media completely depends on a person, a person can use it for his/her motive/wellbeing or just completely waste time for entertainment. There is a high need for digital literacy among youths these days as they are the ones who are the most sufferers of using social media. A sensible youth will always spend time wisely on social media grabbing the maximum benefits while foolish ones will simply waste time and spoil their mind and creative power. Thus Social media is beneficial to us only when we are very careful with its usage.

As is said by wise men of past, the gift of knowledge is a precious one and so is also said that the gift of knowledge has become the poison of society too. With the same manner one can view the Social Media.
It’s in a stage where we can appreciate it for its speed, accessibility, wide knowledge, ease of communication and ease of other things too. At the same time there’s a need to criticize the loopholes it has been accruing ever since it stepped into a new level.
- Social Media is the need of today but it itself needs a serious regulation, focusing the ever increasing loopholes.
- Every good things need to be studied and of course the wave and width of social Media itself has urged a need for a separate discipline (subject) for itself, for world to actually own it.
- The rise in social media can’t only be attributed to its demerits well of course it has already given a significant push to the techies and hence the world is in the verge of a technological evolution faster than ever before.

Social media has given the platform to voice our opinion on various issues happening around us-fighting for injustice, or questioning the real intention behind various policies & it is only the medium where we can reach millions at one go with the ease of convenience. With social media there comes a sense of anonymity has both pros & cons to it.
Pros: – without disclosing our true identity today’s youth raise their opinion without being judged or penalized for it.
Cons: – it invites a lot of cyber predators which leads common people prone to cyberbullied, depression or other mental disorders.
In my opinion, today’s youth need to keep 3 things in mind:-monitor the kind of interaction they are getting into, being aware of the kind of people they are talking to & having a good understanding of what’s happening around them & accordingly, they need to regulate and filter their own speech by realizing consequences of their statements.
