MISSES and STUMBLES

Misses AND Stumbles

THE SAID AND THE UNSAID

There are things SAID,

And there are things UNSAID,

And in between

IM searching for myself.

Today, we are speaking about Sarah – a passionate and a humble soul who has been inspiring many with her success in her not so easy life journey.

A single mother who has single handedly managed to raise two daughters, is the founder of EdSmart Global School, the very first Green Concept School in India and is venturing into another start-up. A dynamic personality who has overcome challenges and achieved all she aspired for but was it all a cake walk for her or as we may say, sunshine and rainbows.

Well, as we take you through her life – it’s not just another story but a journey of self- discovery.

Sarah was born into a conventional business family and she had to take teaching assignments at a very early age to support her family financially. Her hard work eventually landed her a job as a HR Executive in 2001 in a local firm and later worked with Multinational companies like Microsoft, Syntel etc. She had successfully bagged many accolades and awards for her performance and leadership with her sheer determination and hard work.

The realisation that a positive emotional feeling is an important factor to achieve our aspirations comes easily to us in our early years…

Meanwhile, she was facing issues in her married life also and apart from the differences that made her life tough – she was the sole breadwinner in a big joint family.

Our choices always lead us to challenges that we can always take care of…

She started to explore her capabilities as an entrepreneur and started her consulting firm which did very well for the first 2 years but later had to shut down during recession leaving her in deep financial crisis. This incident left her with no option but to sell her property to clear her loans and debts.

Well, the first attempt in learning – the failures …

Well, life had other plans for her too, she was expecting and that made her search for something which would give her financial stability and sustenance for her daughter and family. Inspite of having had gone through a major start-up failure, she again gained muscle and mental strength to venture out and start a Preschool Franchisee (Eurokids) with the help of her sister.

It’s all about picking up the pieces and rebuilding – the comeback is always stronger

All was well, school was running good but she got to know that her new born had a very rare genetic disorder known as “Joubert Syndrome”. She was devastated and led her into depression, she quickly pulled herself together, accepting the fact and worked harder to learn more about Joubert’s and the care required for her daughter. While taking her daughter to therapies and attending to her needs, she continued to run the preschool successfully and went on to establish another preschool and K12 school.

Your life is your responsibility, you are the cause and the solution for everything…

As fate would have it, she gave birth to another girl child with the same genetic disorder. Balancing work and home began to become tougher with time for her.Devoid of support from her husband, both in terms of career and children, she had to give up on her marriage.

Sometimes, right path is not the easiest – that’s all tough decisions are all about…

As a single mother of two children with rare genetic disorder, she was not devastated, instead she thought she should make the life of her children smooth and meaningful by being there for them and creating a brighter future for them financially and otherwise too.

Focus on things that matter the most…

Post her divorce she went on to fulfil her another dream of completing her post-graduation at ISB while continuing to expand her schools. She is currently working with close to 100 women and aims to create positive impact for another 1000 women.

Life never gave her a chance to stop and breathe and in between so many SAID words and UNSAID emotions – she chased her dreams, inspired and inspiring many while still searching for herself in every pause that life gives her…as life rushed by her, she almost missed living fully and just stumbled along , as best as she could.

  1. Women are emotionally very strong. The connect she has for her kids that same cannot be felt by father so men generally tend to leave women to manage. Sarah has conquered her world . Hats off to her.
